The slow cooker is the perfect kitchen appliance to use by those who aren’t in a hurry, and want to get other chores done while the food gets prepared. Beef Stew

It will take you a total time of around 8 hours and 40 minutes to prepare beef stew with the slow cooker. The preparation time is around 20 minutes, and the cooking time is around 8 hours and 20 minutes. To prepare the slow cooker beef stew you need 2 pounds of beef chuck, 1 teaspoon of sweet paprika, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1 pound of small white potatoes, 3 medium carrots, 1/2 pound of cremini mushrooms, 1 medium onion, 1 cup of red wine, 2 tablespoons of tomato paste, 3 springs of fresh thyme, 1 tablespoon of caraway seeds, 1/2 cup of loosely packed parsley leaves, and sour cream. Toss the beef with the salt, pepper, and paprika. Coat it in flour. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet. Add the beef and cook it until it browns. Afterwards, put the beef in the slow cooker. Add the potatoes, carrots, mushrooms, and onions in there as well. Heat the tablespoon of oil in the skillet and add the tomato paste, stirring for 1 minute. Next, add the rest of the ingredients and whisk until the gravy is thick and smooth. Put the gravy in the slow cooker, and cook on low for 8 hours and 20 minutes. At the end, season with salt and pepper, and stir in the parsley.

Pot roast

To prepare the slow cooker pot roast, you will spend about 10 minutes on the preparation, and 8 hours and 15 minutes on cooking. For this recipe you need one 4-pound beef chuck roast, kosher salt, freshly ground black pepper, 3 tablespoons of olive oil, 1/3 cup of all-purpose flour, 4 medium carrots, 3 stalks of celery, 3 garlic cloves, 1 medium onion, 1 cup of red wine, 3 tablespoons of tomato paste, 3 cups of beef broth, 3 bay leaves, 2 sprigs of fresh thyme, 1/2 teaspoon of ground allspice, and 1/2 cup of loosely packed parsley leaves. Sprinkle the beef with salt and pepper. Coat it with flour. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a skillet and add the roast, cooking it until it browns. Afterwards, put it in the slow cooker with the onions, garlic, celery, and carrots. Put the remaining teaspoon of oil in a skillet and heat it. Add the rest of the ingredients and whisk them until the gravy is smooth and slightly thick. Pour the gravy in the slow cooker and cook on low for 8 hours and 15 minutes.

Berry cobbler

You will need 4 hours and 40 minutes to finish the slow cooker berry cobbler. The preparation time takes 20 minutes, the cooking time takes 4 hours, and there’s an inactive period of 20 minutes. To prepare the berry filling, you need unsalted butter, 1/4 cup of cornstarch, 2 tablespoons of lemon juice, 2 bags of frozen mixed berries, and 2/3 cup of granulated sugar. For the biscuit topping, you need 3 tablespoons of granulated sugar, a pinch of fine salt, 3/4 cup of milk, 1/4 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, 4 tablespoons of unsalted butter, 1 and 1/4 cups of all-purpose flour, and 1 tablespoon of baking powder. To prepare the whipped sour cream topping, you need 2 tablespoons of confectioners’ sugar, 1/4 cup of sour cream, and 1/2 cup of heavy cream. To prepare the filling, butter the sides and the bottom of the slow cooker. Whisk the cornstarch, the lemon juice, and 2 tablespoons of water in a small bowl. Add the mixture to the insert, add the granulated sugar and the mixed berries, and toss. When you prepare the biscuit topping, start by whisking together the flour, 2 tablespoons of granulated sugar, the salt and the baking powder in a large bowl. Afterwards, add the butter and milk, and mix them together. Drop tablespoons of the mixture on top of the berry mixture. Cover the slow cooker and set for high for 4 hours. Finally, to prepare the sour cream topping you must combine the sour cream, the heavy cream, and the confectioners’ sugar in a medium bowl. Beat it until it forms medium peaks. At the end, spoon the cobbler into bowls and top it with the whipped cream topping.
